Second time is the charm!

So...as the summer sun disappears and the "cotton ball" clouds roll in, I sit and wonder what next year is going to be like.  As of this morning, I was teaching 4th grade and debating on what read aloud I would be sharing with my upcoming rascals.  Suddenly....."Ring! Ring!" My youngest jellybean picks up the phone and hands it to me.  I "accept" the call and hear a familiar voice....my principal.  My boys saw a lot of nodding and smiling and heard numerous "yippees" and "I'm so excited".  After my phone call, my oldest (who is 6 years old but thinks he is the man of the house while Daddy is at work) asked me what I was so excited about......"Well.....after 10 years of teaching 3rd and 4th grade, Mommy finally gets to move up to 5th grade."  My youngest jellybean was so proud that I could "grow up" like his older brother and move to a different grade.  After all the excitement, my boys went back to their coloring and I.....well my wheels began to turn.

I am so excited about this year's adventure.  Not only am I in a new grade, but a new curriculum and a new team!  Last year, our administration wanted each teacher to show what they have been up to within their classrooms.  I did a lot of writing...journal reflections....notepads....post it notes and loosing my mind at times, trying to keep track of all that I did.  So I thought, what a better way to show what I have been doing and how I have been growing as a teacher, then to start a blog....again!

I am excited to learn to new ideas from you and share you some of the fun we are having throughout the days.  As I "grow up" with my own children, I realize that kids of all ages still need to finger paint, play with dough and peel the glue off of your hands while still learning the age appropriate standards.  Too much of the fun has been lost in learning and in teaching.

Here's to a new year and a ton of color!!
